AI Camera Traps Are Changing Wildlife Conservation

Machine-learning models are now sorting millions of camera trap images so researchers don't have to.Conservation groups once spent thousands of volunteer hours manually reviewing footage to spot rare species among endless photos of blowing grass and passing deer. AI classification models trained on wildlife imagery now do that sorting in minutes, flagging only the frames worth a human look. Combined with GPS tracking collars, the data is giving researchers a far more complete picture of animal movement and population health than was possible a decade ago.
